Joseph William Phillips, 94, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017, at his home. He was born October 20, 1922, to Everette Theophilus "Opp" and Hattie O'Neal Phillips. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Senior Master Sargent after 27 years. During his military career he earned the Bronze Star Medal, two Good Conduct Medals, Air Force Longevity Service Award with one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, and a Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Service Star.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at McMillan Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Francis Nixon Phillips; two step-daughters, Ronelle (Pete) Ianace and Sherrie Castleberry; one step-son, Michael Castleberry; three sisters, Frances Brinkley, Wynoka Phillips and Pat Phillips; one brother, Willford T. (Mattie) Phillips; special friends, James and Angie Nathan; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Brigetta Gabriella Phillips; his parents; two sisters, Marie Phillips and Katie Henson;and two brothers, E.T. Phillips, Jr. and Terry Phillips.
